Vacation 2011

My husband and I stayed for approximately four months organizing our vacation, we decided to go to Rio de Janeiro and Paraty, a city 280km far from Rio , then we researched hostels, airfares, bus tickets, places to visit, all without hiring a tourist agency, just on internet, because we wanted to save money.

When we arrived it was fun, because some people thought that Marcio, my husband, wasn’t Brazilian and tried to speak in English with him. There are many foreign people in Rio de Janeiro, and he is German descendant, his skin is too white, and he used to wear a hat, to protect him of the sun, but it was unfashionable in Rio.

On the first day, we visited the Corcovado, the view at the top is wonderful. There were many tourists there, and we needed to wait a lot to take the train that carries people to Cristo Redentor because the tickets for the next three travels had already been sold.

On the second day, we woke up and guess what? It was raining! However I wanted to know the beaches, then we went to walk on Copacabana, Arpoador and Ipanema with umbrellas, luckily we had taken it with us. Some people say that it is common to see many famous people running on the Copacabana’s boardwalk, but I think they don’t like rainy days, because I didn’t find famous people there. In the afternoon , the sun shone and I could enter in the sea, this wasn’t the best sea bath of my life, the waves were strong and I fell, I didn’t hurt me, just swallowed a little of water.

On the next day, we travelled to Paraty, four hours by bus, the city is very beautiful, there are historic buildings with more than 300 years, there are beaches with crystalline water and many waterfalls.

We were in a hostel located on Jabaquara beach, it isn’t as beautiful as the others beaches farthest from downtown, then we decided to know more places. We stayed there five days, but we did so many things that it seemed more.

We also visited Trindade, where you can see four beaches and many tourists, besides, there is a natural swimming pool, we did a hiking trip to get there and other hiking trip to know one waterfall “Cachoeira que engole” it’s amazing because if you cross under the water between two rocks you arrive in a cave. I felt a little scared but I entered in the cave, Marcio didn’t have courage, he thought that he could stay stuck in the rocks, because he is bigger than me.

We loved to do a boat trip, we sailed through a beautiful landscape, we saw some private islands, and we could swim on the high seas with the fishes in a transparent water, we also could know “Praia do Lula” and “Praia Vermelha” where it’s only possible to arrive by boat.

And finally, we did a jeep tour, to know better Paraty city, thus we could visit more four waterfalls, the beginning of the historical gold path, and an “alambique” where Marcio tried some cachaças. On the next day, we came back home, thinking already in another place to travel on our next vacation.
